Sustainable, functional, aesthetically pleasing: Essem Design makes a real statement in the hallway with its new Endless hook
With the new Endless hook, Essem Design makes an important statement - for more sustainability and functional design. By choosing recycled aluminium as a material, the Swedish company has chosen a raw material that can be reused countless times and 100% withstands the challenge of sustainable product development. The functional, clean design of Endless also emphasizes the durability of the design and makes the wall hook a design element that combines all the features of a true classic.
"I wanted to design a functional hook with a sculptural and playful look," says designer Anna von Schewen, explaining the design process. "I made sketch models out of rubber band, a material that creates shapes with a certain elasticity, which I transferred to the hook. I wanted the form to be functional, but also interesting enough to function as a solitaire. In my opinion, hallway furniture should be functional and inviting. You should be able to find your things when you leave, and you should be able to put them down easily when you get back home. Endless fulfills that."
Endless is both functional and inviting.
Sustainable design: combining aesthetics and responsibility
Endless is made of recycled aluminum. The material can be recycled an infinite number of times without any loss of quality, making the raw material durable. "Aluminum is a strong, durable material, which uses about 95% less energy in secondary production than in primary," explains Robert Bladh, CEO of Essem Design. "Its long life also makes aluminum a very attractive type of metal. In Endless' production, the recycled raw material is first cast in die-casting machines and then goes through a grinding and machining process that is completed with sandblasting. For us, the biggest challenge was to develop a product that was as close as possible to Anna's design, and then to implement it in production."
Sustainability is the challenge of our time. Sustainable production is a crucial factor, but not the only criterion. "We are convinced that products that have a timeless design language and are particularly durable can last for generations," says Bladh. And Anna von Schewen adds, "It's a good feeling to remember that the material has been something else before and can be something else again someday. It's possible to recycle it, which is good, but any production costs energy, and since aluminum is a durable and strong material, hopefully it will stay in Endless' form for a long time."
The hook will be available in aluminum, textured black, white, textured pine green and beige gray. Endless will be available for delivery in July 2023.
