Designer Andreas Klippinge found inspiration for the Tamburin hook strip in the animal kingdom. Dolphins became the inspiration for the hook strip. When the hooks of the Tamburin rack are recessed they protrude above the wooden ledge, similar to the dorsal fin of a playful dolphin cutting through the surface of the water. The precise manufacturing technique and simple mechanical movement, on the other hand, are reminiscent of pinball machines. Like slot machines, you can hardly keep your hands off it – you feel the urge to pull the lever even if you don't have anything to hang up at the moment.
"The option of folding the hook away was obvious, because hanging is usually temporary," Klippinge says. "And that has to be done through clear communication bordering on playfulness. The hallway and the kitchen are probably the most demanding areas of the house, so function is key. As a designer, I always try to draw something with the intention that it will last forever. In this way, you try to get qualities and functions with a long lifespan, that also wants to give the eyes satisfaction and keep you interested. But after all, at the end of the journey, the materials should be able to be easily separated, sorted and hopefully given new life again.”
The Tamburin hook strip is an addition to the Tamburin product family, which Klippinge also designed for Essem Design. The product family, which also includes a hat shelf and a shoe rack, always focuses on function. Klippinge describes the design of the Tamburin series as super functional, robust and clean. The racks consists of powder-coated steel frames and hooks combined with lacquered oak bars. The gable angle reveals the character of the purposeful simplicity, the construction precision as well as the high quality of the materials from Tamburin. The Tamburin hook strip is made in the same colors as the Tamburin hat and shoe shelf, with lacquered oak or painted ash and powder-coated metal details in black and white. The coat rack is available in three lengths; 315 mm with three hooks, 525 mm with five hooks, and 735 mm with seven hooks. The Tamburin coat rack is available for delivery in May 2023.

Tamburin was developed for the home. However, the design of the hook strip is such that it works ideally in cafés, schools or hotels. "Actually, the visible screw heads are a result of directing the product towards public environments, such as cafes, schools and hotels." Klippinge explains. "There, you want it to be quick and easy to install things, especially if it involves a large number of items. The screw heads also communicate that this is a hook strip with durable and robust qualities, which is firmly attached to the wall."
