Skruvad by Essem Design skilfully sets the scene in the hallway
The times when a coat rack was only there to quickly get rid of a jacket are over. Of course, wardrobes still have a practical use today, but the stylish helpers have become a real must have for design enthusiasts in the hallway. They visually enhance small and also larger entrance areas and at the same time create space for jackets, scarves, hats and co.
Skruvad by Essem Design is such a multi-talent. The coat rack created by designer Qian Jiang not only convinces with its elegant simplicity, but also with the well thought out design elements. Inspired by a traditional carpenter's bench, Jiang developed a coat rack in which the wood screws, with which a carpenter's work piece is normally firmly clamped, fulfill a completely new function. In Skruvad, the screws serve as hooks on which clothes can be hung on both sides. The uncomplicated, tool-free assembly means that the screws can be adjusted again and again according to need and use, which makes the piece of furniture unique in its function.
"When I start a project, I don't think so much about creating a design, but more about creating a connection that people can relate to," explains Qian Jiang, product designer of the Skruvad clothes rack. "In terms of design, I keep the product rather simple, with as few elements as possible. I aim for a mixture of minimalist, functional and narrative as a result. If my design is poetic on top of that, that's a plus. I think keeping something intentionally vague stimulates the user's imagination, where often the 'unfamiliar' prevails."
Eye-catcher for the bedroom: Skruvad is a stylish alternative to a mute servant
But the coat rack is not only intended as an eye-catcher for the hallway: the piece of furniture also fulfills the functions of a mute servant in the bedroom. "In our opinion, Skruvad is very versatile," says Robert Bladh, CEO Essem Design.
"The coat rack can be used as a design object in the hallway. Jackets, coats, hats or even an umbrella find a fixed place hanging there and thus create order in the entrance area. But we have also designed the piece of furniture so that it can be used as a helper in the bedroom. Everyday clothes, a dressing gown or nightgown can be hung up with or without a hanger. This creates space for thoughts and a more relaxed sleep."
Skruvad is made in Sweden. The frame and hooks are made of beech, which comes from sustainable forestry. The base is made of steel, which gives the piece of furniture a firm stand. Skruvad is available in white and black monochrome.
