A chat with Elisabetta Rizzato, italian architect who changed lanes into trend, colour and interior design
We met up with Elisabetta Rizzato who runs @italianbark, a trend blog and interior design studio. She is the architect who became colour and trend consultant – based in Treviso/Venezia, Italy but working at an international arena. Since graduating from London’s Saint Martin’s she has worked with different companies and studios, but in April 2016 she pursued her dream and quit her job to focus on Italian bark full time.

Hi! How do you go about creating a welcoming home?
There are so many things you can do to create a welcoming home! Some are about the design phase: choosing right colors, such as warm and soft ones; create some nooks or corners to make the layout more cosy; plan different lighting sources, so the light is always soft and not direct.
Then you can work with decoration: by adding flowers, scents, small objects that remind you of beautiful moments, cushions and blankets. Music is very important too – we very often have music going in our home.
What are your best tips for decorating an entrance area?
The entrance area is often overlooked in the design phase, but only when you don’t have it you realise how important it is. In fact it’s the area where you store the things to be used daily to get out, like coats, jackets, shoes, keys, small objects, umbrellas. That’s why my very first tip is to think well about how to store your things – with a nice coat stand and a small cabinet for example. Lighting is also very important in this area! Another small detail that is very useful is a rug – a small but nice rug can help you decorate the area.
Flowers is an easy way to make a positive difference in the hallway
You recently redesigned your hallway. What was important to you in the redesign?
Our current hallway is temporary as we are doing an home extension and creating a small room for this ( that’s why in the picture you see a door behind the coat stand, we are not using that door at the moment). But for now we created a corner in the living room which is super organised: we have a set of small cabinets to be used to store shoes and at the same time as a bench to put shoes on, a coat stand for the jackets we use daily and a spotlight just for this corner. As you can see, for us it was first important to have a functional space!
You decided to use Skruvad. What makes the coat stand special for you?
We love our Skruvad coat stand! The design is very nice because it is very minimal, and it is super resistant. But what we have loved the most is how easy it was to install, it only took five minutes!
